Here is one of the most sought after blacking or New England bottles around. This is the “HUTCHINS & MASON / WATERPROOF BLACKING / KEENE N.H.” square oversized blacking bottle form. These were relatively unknown until a small cache (roughly 6-8 good examples) were found in a yard in Keene NH during the 1970s. This 1840s bottle was likely made at Keene or Stoddard. Bright “syrupy” amber, loads of character, pontil base, sheared lip. Near perfect… this one has a little extra glass on the panel from tooling, and a tiny bit of lip roughness. These have sold in the 6-8000 range, and are considered very rare! please keep in mind, we can do monthly payments on this one, and many of our items.
